Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Allen-Bradley 2094-BC04-M03-S?
It is a Rockwell Automation Kinetix 6000 Integrated Axis Module that combines a 28 kW converter with a servo inverter for 400/460 V-class industrial motion systems.
What is the difference between the converter and inverter ratings?
The converter section is rated at 28 kW and supplies DC-bus power to the drive system. The integrated servo inverter section is rated at 13.5 kW continuous output power and controls its connected motor axis. The 28 kW converter rating should not be interpreted as the inverter's motor power rating.
Is the inverter current 28 A, 30 A or 21.2 A?
Rockwell Automation's product page uses 28 A in its abbreviated description. Detailed technical specifications identify 30 A continuous zero-to-peak and 21.2 A RMS for the inverter section. These different references should not be substituted for one another during motor sizing.
What AC input voltage is required?
The module uses a 400/460 V-class three-phase AC supply, with a specified RMS voltage range of 324–528 VAC and an input frequency range of 47–63 Hz.
Can this module supply additional servo axes?
Yes. The converter section supplies the shared DC bus of a compatible Kinetix 6000 multi-axis system. The total load must remain within the converter, power-rail and protection ratings.
Where should the Integrated Axis Module be installed?
The IAM occupies the leftmost position on the compatible Bulletin 2094 power rail. Other supported axis modules occupy subsequent positions according to the installation design.
Does 2094-BC04-M03-S support Safe Torque Off?
Yes. The -S suffix identifies the safe-off variant. The function requires the appropriate hardwired safety circuit, correct firmware and validation of the complete safety system.
Does the drive support EtherNet/IP motion control?
The Kinetix 6000 uses a SERCOS fiber-optic interface for motion control. It is not an EtherNet/IP-native servo drive. A compatible Logix SERCOS motion interface is required.
What is the inverter's continuous output power?
The integrated inverter section is rated at approximately 13.5 kW continuous power, subject to the selected motor and application conditions.
Does the module contain an internal shunt resistor?
Yes. Its internal shunt is specified at 28.75 Ω, with 200 W continuous and 22.5 kW peak power ratings. The complete regenerative-energy requirement must be calculated for the servo system.
Which firmware is required for the safe-off feature?
Rockwell Automation's Kinetix 6000 release notes state that firmware revision 1.88 or later is required when commissioning the drive with its safe-off feature. Mixed module series may have additional firmware compatibility requirements.
What is the difference between 2094-BC04-M03-S and 2094-BC04-M03-M?
The 2094-BC04-M03-S is a Kinetix 6000 integrated module with the safe-off configuration. The 2094-BC04-M03-M belongs to the Kinetix 6200/6500 modular control architecture. The control modules and system configurations differ, so they are not interchangeable without engineering review.
Is the 2094-BC04-M03-S discontinued?
Yes. Rockwell Automation lists December 31, 2023 as the discontinuation date for this product.
What replacement does Rockwell Automation recommend?
Rockwell Automation identifies 2198-D057-ERS3 from the Kinetix 5700 family as an engineering replacement. Migration requires redesign and verification of the power architecture, motor feedback, network communication, safety functions, wiring and controller configuration.
Can the 2198-D057-ERS3 be installed directly in the same power rail?
No. Kinetix 5700 uses a different physical and electrical system architecture from Kinetix 6000. The newer module should not be treated as a direct drop-in replacement.
What should be verified before ordering?
Confirm the exact catalog number 2094-BC04-M03-S, compatible Kinetix 6000 power rail, 400/460 V-class three-phase input, 28 kW converter rating, 21.2 A RMS continuous inverter output, safe-off wiring, SERCOS interface, required firmware, motor and feedback connections, compatible Bulletin 2094 axis modules, shunt requirements and existing controller configuration.
