The Omron E3JK-R4M2 detects opaque objects interrupting the optical path between the sensor and a compatible reflector. Its rated sensing distance is 4 m with the E39-R1 reflector.
The output relay energizes when the light beam is interrupted or insufficient reflected light is received. This distinguishes the E3JK-R4M2 from the Light-ON E3JK-R4M1 model.
The legacy sensor supports 24 to 240 VAC at 50/60 Hz or 12 to 240 VDC, enabling integration with appropriately rated existing industrial power and control circuits.
A mechanical SPDT changeover relay provides common, normally open and normally closed contact connections, with a maximum resistive load rating of 3 A at 250 VAC.
The relay output operates and resets within a maximum specified response time of 30 ms, making the sensor applicable to compatible general-purpose machine detection tasks.
The sensor uses a pre-wired electrical connection, a red light reception indicator and an IP64-rated enclosure. Proper mounting and reflector alignment are necessary for reliable detection.

What is the Omron E3JK-R4M2?
It is a legacy retroreflective photoelectric sensor with fixed Dark-ON operation, a 4 m sensing range with the E39-R1 reflector and an SPDT relay output.
What is the sensing distance?
The rated range is 4 m with an E39-R1 reflector or 5 m with an optional E39-R2 reflector under manufacturer test conditions.
Does the sensor require a reflector?
Yes. Retroreflective sensing requires a compatible reflector. Confirm whether the reflector is included with the offered unit.
What does Dark-ON mean?
The relay energizes when the reflected light is interrupted or not received, such as when an opaque target blocks the beam.
What supply voltage is supported?
The sensor supports 24 to 240 VAC at 50/60 Hz and 12 to 240 VDC, subject to the manufacturer's electrical installation requirements.
Is the output NPN or PNP?
Neither. The E3JK-R4M2 has an electromechanical SPDT relay output, not a transistor output.
What is the maximum relay contact rating?
The maximum specified resistive load is 3 A at 250 VAC. Inductive and other loads require suitable rating checks and circuit protection.
How quickly does the sensor switch?
The maximum response time is 30 ms for both relay operation and reset.
Can the sensing sensitivity be adjusted?
No. This legacy model has fixed sensitivity. Proper sensor and reflector alignment is essential.
What is the difference between E3JK-R4M1 and E3JK-R4M2?
Both models use 4 m retroreflective sensing and relay outputs. E3JK-R4M1 is Light-ON, whereas E3JK-R4M2 is Dark-ON.
Is the E3JK-R4M2 discontinued?
The E3JK-R4M2-US version is listed as obsolete by component distributors. Check current availability and regional lifecycle information before planning maintenance.
What should be checked before ordering?
Confirm the exact E3JK-R4M2 model, Dark-ON relay behavior, 4 m detection range, E39-R1 reflector arrangement, AC/DC power supply compatibility, SPDT contact wiring, IP64 protection, cable length and mechanical mounting dimensions.
